Deep Tissue Massage

A type of massage therapy, deep tissue massage involves applying firm pressure and slow strokes to reach deeper layers of muscle and fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles).

It's used for chronic aches and pain and contracted areas such as a stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders.

Deep tissue massage techniques are used to break up scar tissue and physically break down muscle "knots" or adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) that can disrupt circulation and cause pain, limited range of motion, and inflammation.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is a form of massage involving the manipulation of soft tissue to benefit a person engaged in regular physical activity. Soft tissue is connective tissue that has not hardened into bone and cartilage; it includes skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia (a form of connective tissue that lines and ensheathes the other soft tissues). Sports massage is designed to assist in correcting problems and imbalances in soft tissue that are caused from repetitive and strenuous physical activity and trauma. The application of sports massage, prior to and after exercise, may enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injury.

Clinical Massage

Clinical Massage is a very different discipline from other therapy professions treating physical conditions (such as chiropractors, osteopaths, physiotherapists etc). It involves working with the tissues of the body. Clinical massage therapists look at nerves and muscles and specialize in treating pain felt in the body. It is a discipline that can help with injuries and long term conditions.

Clinical massage therapists have an in depth knowledge of the body and associated ailments. Clinical therapists can help with a variety of complaints, even those defined as ‘untreatable’ by their doctor. On many occasions, frozen shoulders, carpal tunnel syndrome and lower back pain can all be helped by clinical massage (often avoiding the need for invasive surgery).

Clinical massage therapists have a hands-on approach that works directly with the body. It is the combination of detailed client consultation and a tailored programme of treatment that helps to address the pain.

Prenatal Massage

Prenatal Massage has many benefits, not just for you but also for your baby.

Pregnancy is a stressful time, physically as well as emotionally. Your body undergoes some fundamental transformations including postural and hormonal changes, along with an increase in plasma and blood volume. Even your organs shift position as your pregnancy develops.

Together, these effects can put significant pressure on the body, particularly on the spine, neck and weight-bearing joints.

A growing body of research indicates that regular Prenatal Massage provides a safe, drug-free, relaxing way to minimise and relieve the common discomforts of a developing pregnancy. There’s also increasing evidence that Pregnancy Massage can improve not only your own physical and mental wellbeing but also that of your baby.

Natasha recently concluded her Midwifery Training at University of Hertfordshire, gaining a Higher Education Diploma in Maternal and Neonatal Health. This qualification and experience has given her a wealth of understanding of the ever changing body during pregnancy.
